Start of School Information

August, 2018

To All Pascack Valley Students and Parents/Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you having a relaxing and enjoyable summer.  August 30, 2018 (August 29th  for freshmen) will be here soon and I am excited to see what awesome accomplishments the 2018-2019 school year will bring us.

As is the case every summer, our custodial and maintenance staff are busy preparing the building for another great school year.  This year PV is continuing its efforts at enhancing building security.  Plans are in place to upgrade certain areas to provide a safe and secure place for learning to take place.  We have also completed the installation of the new turf field.  This surface has enhanced safety features and plays 15-20 degrees cooler than the old turf.

On August 29th all ninth grade students are to meet in the auditorium at 8:00 am.  Students will be seated according to their first period class.  A seating chart will be posted on the front doors prior to their arrival.  The Ninth Grade Orientation will include an information session that will include emergency procedures, review of the schedule and visiting each class on the student’s schedule.  We will follow an R1 day schedule.

On August 30th all students will be reporting to school.  This will be an R1 day.  We will be following the schedule that begins with Period 1.

Student schedules are available for viewing on Parent Access, upon completion of the required summer forms.  We have created a link on our website where students can type their “Monday” schedule in and it will automatically populate their schedule for the remaining rotations.  A paper copy of the student schedule will not be provided for you so please be sure to print out a copy of your schedule before coming to school.

Additional important information:

  • As part of our focus on school security, all exterior doors will be locked after 8:00 am each day.  All doors will remain free to exit the building at all times.  Parents and all visitors are to report to the Security Desk when entering the building.  For security purposes, please note that lunch or personal items cannot be dropped off once the school day begins.  Also, be sure to review the security protocols should an emergency occur throughout the year.

  • Please review your student’s schedule for accuracy.  All student initiated schedule changes must be completed by September 21st.  If you have questions regarding your schedule, please call the Guidance office at 201-258-7060 ext. 24009 between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm.
  • Medical Reminder - The NJ Department of Health requires all students in Grades 9 through 12 to have completed the series of three hepatitis B immunizations in order to attend school.  An individual letter has been sent to those students and parents regarding this requirement.  Students without the proper immunization will not be admitted to school.

  • Student School Attire – Please review the student handbook online for our district’s policy on school attire.  If a student is inappropriately dressed, the parent/guardian will be contacted to bring a change of clothing to the school.

  • Reminder - All students are required to have an updated physical exam prior to participation in any athletic practice or participation.  All ninth graders and students new to the school must have a physical exam prior to entering the school on August 30.  Students cannot participate in Physical Education class and could be excluded from entering school.

  • Security of student personal items – All students are responsible for the safety and security of their laptop, backpack, school materials, gym clothing and any personal items.  Students should NOT bring expensive jewelry or large amounts of money to school.  During his or her physical education class, each student will have access to a gym locker for that period only.  They are expected to lock their clothing, wallet, shoes, etc. in the lockers.  It is the student’s responsibility to secure and lock the gym locker for that class period.  At the end of the class period they are to remove the lock and must take their belongings with them.  A combination lock may be purchased at a local hardware store or from the Physical Education department for a cost of $5.00.  The lock may be purchased during your child’s physical education class.Checks should be written payable to “Pascack Valley High School.”

  • All emergency information, laptop forms and policy sign-off sheets are available for your digital signoff on your Parent Access.  Please understand that updated emergency contact information will facilitate a quick response in an emergency situation.  If you plan to be out of the state or country, please notify the office and provide legal protection for your child with a “temporary guardianship” in case of an emergency situation.  A student will not be issued a laptop until all the required forms have been completed.

  • Limited parking will be available on campus for seniors who meet eligibility requirements. Ms. Squiccimarri and Mr. Puccio, our Assistant Principals, will be processing parking forms on Tuesday, August 21 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am, and Thursday, August 23 from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm in the main office. You must bring with you:
