Snow Day Make-up Information

Snow Day Make-up Information
Clipart Image of a SnowflakeLetter sent to parents and students on March 21, 2018 regarding the make-up of snow days:

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

This winter season has brought interesting weather to our region, as we have had everything from an 80 degree day to four “nor’easter” storms in the last month. Unfortunately, the storms have put us in a situation where we have exceeded the number of snow days built-in to the calendar and must make-up at least one day to comply with the NJ State mandate of conducting 180 school days.

As of today, we have one day to make-up for this school year. We will make this day up as a virtual day on Friday, April 6, during our Spring Break. Understanding students may be traveling or not available to physically be in the school building, they will have the option to engage in their lessons virtually, either from home or school. The virtual day will “count” as teachers will be in the schools and our facilities will be physically open, complying with the State mandate.

If weather forces us to close school beyond today (March 21), we will make-up each missed day during Spring Break week, as virtual days, in reverse order (Thursday, then Wednesday, etc.). We will notify the community if future days are needed and more specific information on the schedule will be issued next week.

The Pascack Valley Regional High School District believes this solution is a creative and productive way to address the scheduling challenge this stormy season has created. Given technology is woven into the fabric of our everyday instruction and based on our previous experience, we are fully prepared to implement these virtual days for our students. Further, we feel this is a valuable opportunity for all students, as most are likely to take online courses in college and “working from home” has become a new norm for many companies and industries.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and hope that you will be safe throughout the remainder of this storm.
