The 68th Annual Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages returned to its in person format this year and world language teachers were finally able to gather together in New York City for three days of professional development under the umbrella of “Classroom Roots, Global Reach.”

After being named the World Language Teacher of the Year in New Jersey in May, Elena Spathis earned recognition as a Teacher of the Year Finalist at the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (NECTFL) in New York City this past weekend. She proudly represented Pascack Valley High School and the state of New Jersey as she was honored alongside fellow World Language Teachers of the Year from other Northeast States.

Ms. Kanova, a Pascack Valley Spanish teacher, had the honor of presenting a workshop on the use of simulated conversation at all levels of world language courses. Ms. Kanova’s  workshop provided attendees with practical knowledge of effective use of oral interpersonal tasks in the world language classroom. It is Ms. Kanova’s hope that her workshop will help world language educators equip their students with genuine language skills when communicating at a global level in a language different from their mother tongue.

We are incredibly proud of our teachers for being recognized as leaders in their field and for sharing their experiences with other educators in the northeast region.
