Dr. Eric Johnson, a historian and archeologist from Harvard,  taught PV students about the history of the Munsee Lenape tribe as well as the present day Ramapough Lenape Nation. Students learned about the cultural and later political and economic significance of wampum and how its function changed over time. They also had a chance to see history in action when Dr. Johnson explained his current research and excavation at local sites within the Pascack Valley. This included an excavation site in Park Ridge that was a wampum workshop. More information is available through this article from the Pascack Press: https://thepressgroup.net/history-unearthed-researcher-recovers-shells-from-19th-century-industry/

We thank Dr. Johnson for teaching our students about the Munsee Lenape Tribe and the Ramapough Lenape Nation.
