COVID19 Recommendations

November 2022

WHEN TO STAY HOME:

The New Jersey Department of Health recommends that students with the following symptoms or combination of symptoms be promptly isolated from others and excluded from school:

PLEASE STAY HOME AND NOTIFY YOUR NURSE IF YOUR CHILD HAS:

Two or more of the following symptoms:

      fever (measure or subjective), chills, rigors (shivers), myalgia (muscle aches), headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, congestion, or runny nose;

OR

      One of the following symptoms:

cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new olfactory disorder, or new taste disorder.

RETURNING TO SCHOOL IF SYMPTOMS:

COVID19 testing (a PCR, Rapid Antigen or home test) is recommended to return to school for symptomatic individuals.  This recommendation for testing is for all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status.

Please notify the attendance officer or the school nurse office if your child is exhibiting Covid-19 compatible symptoms or if they test positive for COVID19.

**If your child tests negative for COVID19, please be sure they are fever free and improved symptoms for 24 hours, without fever reducing medications, prior to returning to school.

IF COVID19 POSITIVE:

      Please notify your school Nurse

Student will need to remain home for 5 days from symptom onset (symptom onset is considered day “0”)

Days 6-10: Students may return ONLY if symptoms have resolved and they are fever free for 24 hours.  They must wear a well fitted mask at all times, indoor and outdoors, during this time frame while at school.

Regardless of immunization status of other family members, those who are COVID 19 positive should be isolated from others in the household, if possible, for the full 10 days from symptom onset.  A close contact continues to be defined as being within 6ft for 15 or more cumulative minutes within 24 hours.  Those who test positive are contagious 2 days prior to symptom onset or 2 days prior to test date when there are no symptoms.

Please discuss this with your child and notify those who may have had close contact during this time frame.

EXPOSURE TO COVID19

Those who had close contact, regardless of vaccination status, should wear a well fitted mask for 10 days from the date of last contact and monitor for symptoms.

If symptomatic, they should test for Covid19.  If no symptoms develop, it is recommended they test 5 days after their exposure.

Please notify your school nurse if your child has been exposed to COVID19 or if someone in the household has tested positive for COVID19.

If someone in the household tests positive for COVID19, your child MAY come to school with a mask, if they are symptom free.  They must wear a mask for the 10 days from the date of last exposure as above.  It is recommended they are tested for COVID19 if they develop any symptoms  or test on the 6th day after the last exposure if no symptoms. .

Our goal is to keep our students healthy, safe and in school.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
