Start of School Information

August 13, 2020

Dear Student and Parents/Guardians:

I hope this correspondence finds you and your family well. My name is Glenn deMarrais, and I am proud to join the administrative team as the new principal of Pascack Valley High School, moving down the road after eight years as principal of Pascack Hills. I have hit the ground running, and needless to say, this summer has been like no other in my thirty seven years as an educator. As you know, we are faced with a great deal of uncertainty, but please know that we are collectively working to provide students with the most rewarding educational experiences possible under these circumstances.

Although this letter includes important information, more details on the beginning of the school year, including student schedules, will be sent out over the next couple of  weeks. My hope is that each correspondence relieves some of your concerns and adds excitement for our school year to begin.

As with many things, the first week of school will look different than in the past.

We will have Freshmen Orientation on Wednesday, September 2nd. Freshmen will receive a separate email with further information.

All 10th, 11th & 12th grade students in Cohort A (your last name begins with A - K) will come to school for a half day on Thursday, September 3rd.

All 10th, 11th & 12th grade students in Cohort B (your last name begins with L - Z) will come to school for a half day on Friday, September 4th.

We are still working out the logistics for these three days. More detailed information will be sent in a separate email. When we return to school after Labor Day, we will begin our regular four day A/B hybrid rotation schedule on Tuesday, September 8th. This four day rotation will repeat and continue during the  hybrid schedule. Please visit our "reopening plan" page on the district website for more information.

As mentioned in Dr. Gundersen's email last week, all families will be required to complete a form in Genesis Parent Access, noting whether their child will be physically attending school or opting for full remote learning.  This form needs to be completed by Wednesday, August 19th. Students opting for full remote learning will have an opportunity to switch to the hybrid model during the first full week of each month beginning in October. Students beginning the year in the hybrid model will be permitted to change to full remote learning at any time.

We continue to utilize Genesis Parent/Student Access for all school forms. In addition to maintaining current contact information, parents and students are able to review, complete and digitally sign all required forms. Below are two links that can provide more detailed information on Genesis Parent/Student Access, as well as laptop distribution for incoming 9th grade students. If you have a question regarding Genesis Parent/Student Access, please contact Ms. Maria Valentino at

Finally, I would like to encourage all of the parents join our Pascack Valley Parent Faculty Organization (PFO). The PFO provides direct support to our teachers, club advisors, coaches, and administrative team. More than ever, it is important that we stay connected as a school community; joining the PFO can help foster that connection.
